Support4SDR is dedicated to providing support and advice for families before and after SDR surgery.
This site is set up and run by a group of parents whose children have undergone this operation. We are not qualified to give clinical advice, but are happy to discuss our own experience with you so that with the right information you can make an informed choice.
We also want to spread the understanding of SDR within the medical community so that health professionals can see what a profound effect SDR has on a childs ability.
In 2010, the founders of this group met at The Childrens Hospital St Louis, Missouri USA. A pioneering surgeon, Dr Park had refined the SDR procedure and the only way to get access to it was to fund raise the neccessary £50,000 for the journey to America to see him.

Since returning Support4 SDR been campaigning hard to see the free availability of SDR on the NHS in the UK for all suitable candidates.
Through magazine articles, demonstrations and newspaper pieces, our campaign has gone to the top of the land.
Our cause has been championed by Chris Heaton-Harris MP and he has secured debates in parliament. When the opportunity also came to raise the issue with David Cameron at Prime Ministers Questions, he took it, helping trigger the next stage in the campaign.
Support4SDR then attended meetings with Government Ministers, driving change through the Health Department. The result of many committee meetings with NHS professionals is the process now called 'Commissiong Through Evaluation' detailed here. When this process begins a closely monitored series of SDR operations will be carried out to assess it's efficacy.
In time we hope this will lead to the full, free availability of SDR on the NHS in England.
Across the border in Wales a seperate campaign group, Support4SDR Wales is waging a similiar campaign to drive change through NHS Wales.
Join them in their fight here.
